Objective & Scope of the Initiative
Launched on February 13, 2024, by the Government of India, the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana transforms consumers into 'Prosumers' (energy producers and consumers). The scheme eliminates household electricity bills, enables families to earn additional income by selling surplus power to DISCOMs, and reduces the carbon footprint across India.

National Portal Registration
Register on the portal with your State, Electricity Distribution Company (DISCOM), and Consumer Account Number.
Technical Feasibility Approval
DISCOM evaluates the transformer load and issues online feasibility approval for net-metering synchronization.
Plant Installation by Certified EPC
MNRE-registered solar vendors install Tier-1 DCR solar modules, inverter, structure, and safety earthing.
Net-Meter Installation & Inspection
DISCOM officials inspect the plant, install a bidirectional net meter, and issue the Commissioning Certificate.
Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT)
Upload the commissioning certificate and cancelled cheque to receive up to ₹78,000 subsidy directly in your bank account within 30 days.

To eliminate upfront financial burden for residential consumers, the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy has partnered with major public and private sector banks (SBI, PNB, Canara Bank, Bank of Baroda, etc.) to offer subsidized loans:
